Hidetaka Miyazaki assures that Elden Ring will keep getting updates as he moves onto new projects, but stopped short of confirming DLC.
Given its popularity, it stands to reason that Elden Ring will eventually get DLC in the future. However, neither FromSoftware nor Bandai Namco has officially commented on the possibility, despite all of From’s previous games having at least one expansion.
From the sound of things, director Hidetaka Miyazaki is ready to move on with a brand new project, although that won’t mean post-launch support for Elden Ring will end any time soon.
While he didn’t provide any specifics, Miyazaki has stated that updates for Elden Ring will continue.
The game has already received a few patches to address bugs and the like, as well as some new side quests, but there’s still no sign of any proper DLC expansions similar to Dark Souls or Bloodborne.
Bandai Namco CEO Yasuo Miyakawa has previously talked about expanding the Elden Ring brand after it sold 12 million copies worldwide in just three weeks.
So, if they didn’t have plans for it to begin with, there must have been discussions of Elden Ring DLC once the sales figures started coming in.
As for Miyazaki’s next game, he was asked about it in an interview with Japanese outlet 4Gamer. He’s keeping coy for now, but he did admit that its development is ‘in the final stages.’
There was talk at the beginning of the year of Miyazaki working on a new Armored Core game, with details and screenshots purportedly leaking online, so this could be what he’s referring to.
He also expressed a desire to make a more abstract fantasy game in the future, and that he has ideas that don’t quite fit with FromSoftware’s current image or the kind of games it’s made before.
He’s never expanded on what that means but given the success of Elden Ring he’ll likely be given the chance to make whatever he wants next.
