It looks like NetherRealm is currently at work on a new Mortal Kombat game, as actor Andrew Bowen hints at his involvement.

Developer NetherRealm Studios hasn’t released a new game since 2019 and while that would normally indicate that they’re nearly finished on their next project the uncertainty over whether they, and Warner’s game division in general, would be sold off, has no doubt made things difficult for them lately.

Since NetherRealm’s last game was Mortal Kombat 11, traditionally you’d expect their next game to be Injustice 3 or another project but for a while now the, admittedly vague rumours, have pointed towards Mortal Kombat 12.

This latest hint comes from Johnny Cage actor Andrew Bowen, who played the character in Mortal Kombat X and 11, and posted a video of himself visiting the Warner Bros. lot to do… something.

The fact that the background music to the video is from Mortal Kombat 2 seems a pretty blatant clue as to why Bowen is there, although he doesn’t actually comment on the visit.

The music though is accompanied by the lyrics, ‘Every deadly technique. It’s savage combat.’

The clues all seem fairly obvious, but developer, and others involved with the series, are infamous for dropping obscure or even flat out deceptive hints about new games, so it’s probably best not to take this one as read.

Given how long it’s been since the last one though it does seem likely that Mortal Kombat 12 is relatively imminent, even if there’s no way to guess when it might be announced.

Warner doesn’t tend to run its own preview events and instead usually uses those of one of the console manufacturers, such as the spotlight on Hogwarts Legacy during a Sony State of Play earlier this year.

Although, of course, predicting if and when there might be another one of those is just as hard as working out what’s going on with the next Mortal Kombat.
