With Pokémon Scarlet & Violet due to be released in less than a month, a new Ghost type has been revealed in a mysterious new trailer.
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is out in less than a month and yet still only a relatively small number of new pokémon have been revealed, with Nintendo generally preferring to showcase just one at a time instead of all at once.
As such, the latest trailer includes just one new critter, although he’s a pretty cool one and likely to quickly become a fan favourite.
The video shows a student from the Naranja Academy, the school featured in Scarlet, wandering through the forest at night, on an assignment to find Ghost type pokémon.
The student tries to be brave and get on with the task, as she comes across a Mimikyu which sends shivers down her spine. Quickly moving on she also stumbles across a Gengar, though she continues with her search as she remembers she saw something else earlier.
While trying to catch her breath, she sees a candle on the ground, and as she gets closer to investigate, she screams as something jumps out of the ground. As she takes a closer look at the mysterious Ghost type pokémon the student is instantly relieved as it’s far cuter than the others.
The student and the dog-like creature with the candle on its head, immediately become friends and start playing fetch with a stick.
Later on, Pokémon’s official Twitter account revealed that the cute creature’s name is Greavard, the Ghost Dog Pokémon.
It’s set to be the trainers’ best friend, as paying it any attention will make it so happy that it’ll follow you wherever you go. Though you need to be careful, as Greavard will ‘slowly and inadvertently’ absorb the life force of anyone around it.
Greavard kind of looks like a cross between an old English sheepdog puppy and a Litwick, making it all the more familiar, compared to other more exotic-looking pokémon.
The official Scarlet & Violet website also notes that Greavard has extremely powerful jaws, in its newly updated Pokémon list, so make sure to approach it with caution, when the time comes.
As you saw in the teaser, this doggo barely moves and usually rests ‘peacefully’ underground, though it’s ready to jump out at any moment.
Here are all of Greavard’s details, as they’ll appear in the new game’s Pokédex:
- Category: Ghost Dog Pokémon
- Type: Ghost
- Height: 2′ (0.6 m)
- Weight: 77.2 lbs. (35.0 kg)
- Ability: Pickup
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch on Friday, November 18.
